About The Author
About the Author Karen Sullivan Brooks was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1970 to Sharon Marie Paul and Robert Bernard Sullivan. She gave her life to the Lord in the summer of 1994 at an outside crusade in Jacksonville, Florida. Her passion is to see people healed, delivered, and set free by the power of Almighty God. Her prayer is that people come into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and experience true love in the communion of the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son -Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit). She enjoys dancing and has been in dance ministry for over eleven years. She has served in many facets of the church and considers herself a "servant and friend of the Most High God" as well as a daughter and joint-heir with Jesus Christ. She enjoys reading, writing, and praying for others. She resides with her husband, Wendell, and their son, Andrew, in Lithonia, Georgia, on the outskirts of Atlanta.
Book Overview
One night as I lay awake in bed trying to fall asleep, I found myself face to face with a life-and-death situation. I lay there tossing and turning when something, some presence, entered my room. Fear immediately gripped me, and my eyes slowly moved to and from across the dark room, desperately seeking some explanation for the unknown presence I now felt. Suddenly something sat down next to me. I could feel my mattress sink down under the weight of whatever evil presence was now sitting next to me. Not being able to see anything, I just lay there speechless, paralyzed with fear. All of a sudden, that presence spread out on top of me; the pressure on my stomach and chest was so intense I could barely catch my breath. My body was being crushed under the weight of this evil thing. My windpipe began to collapse as my nose and mouth we’re covered. All kinds of thoughts raced through my mind, and I frantically tried to figure out what to do or say.
Finally I mustered up enough strength and gasped the name of Jesus. Instantly I was free. Whatever was sucking the life out of me was lifted off of me and was now gone. I was sixteen years old at the time, and it would be another sixteen years before I would ever speak of what happened that night. I knew enough about Jesus to call on His name because of my grandmother and what I was taught in church. But that was the first time I experienced the powder the name of Jesus held. Jesus had saved me from the death claws of the enemy, but why? Who was I that the enemy of God wanted to take my life at such an early age? Who or what was I destined to become?
I began to wonder what purpose I had for being here. I've experienced so many trying and difficult times in my life, not to mention the many close calls on my life. Like some of you, I have also been so worn out by the everyday trials of life that I simply wanted to give up and go to that eternal resting place, but by God’s grace I, like you, am still here!
